Retro Bowl Gameplay Breakdown

Retro Bowl is a mix of football team management and on-field arcade gameplay. You're in charge of both roster management and playing offense on the field. Before any match starts, the game puts you in the shoes of the head coach of a struggling football team, and it’s your responsibility to manage everything on and off the field, from upgrading facilities to drafting players, building talented rosters, etc. But once the match kicks off, you’ll switch to the role of a quarterback and aim to score as many points as possible to outplay opponents and move one step closer to the championship.

How to build and manage the team?

The game provides you with handy tools to grow and manage the team. From the main menu, navigate to the Front Office, Roster, and Hall of Fame to explore and make strategic decisions that rebuild the team with talented players, focusing on stronger quarterbacks, while also keeping the whole team and fans happy. 

This may sound a bit complex at first, but luckily, there are always tutorials ready to guide you on how to play and run your team like a true boss/head manager. So, do not skip tutorials!

How to offend effectively and outscore opposing teams?

As an on-field player, you primarily play as quarterback and control the offense: pass the ball, run, and score with your touchdowns and field goals. Time your runs perfectly, move skillfully, and pass to outsmart opposing defenders. Again, Retro Bowl’s in-game tutorials give you all the details you need to aim, throw the ball, dodge opponents, dive, and score field goals. Follow these guides to master the game quickly.

Game controls:

  • Pass the ball: Aim by clicking, dragging, and holding in the opposite direction of the running receiver. Release to launch the ball.
  • Side-Stepping: While running, press W or S to side-step and dodge defenders like a pro.
  • Slowing Down & Diving: Use A or D to either slow down the momentum or dive forward in style.
  • Field goals: Time two precise clicks to send the ball sailing through the uprights.
